Our Nursery

New Road Nursery and Wingerworth Out of School Club was established in 1994. Ownership transferred in 2003 to Jane Shepherd, a qualified staff nurse (Registered Nurse Learning Disabilities), other qualifications include NNEB diploma in child care and education and more recently Foundation Degree in Early Years.

Jane is the driving force and has developed the setting whilst keeping safeguarding, health and wellbeing at the top of every agenda.

In March 2017 the setting moved to its current premises and the business, now “Wingerworth Wonder Years”, continues to develop and grow, making sure families enjoy their journey with us.

We Make a Point of Putting the Children First.

Education in the early years is about developing strong, curious, confident children. It is about extending their joy, fascination and wonder at the world around them, about developing concentration, commitment and deep involvement. It is about exploring real and imaginary worlds and forming positive relationships with others.

What’s Next?

The first days at nursery are really important and therefore necessary for the parents and the staff to work together to help the child feel confident and secure. This takes longer for some children than others and parents should not feel worried if their child takes a while to settle.

Parents/carers will be asked to make a minimum of three transitional visits preferably on the days intended to use. More visits may be required; every child is different so close monitoring by the key person and parent/carer until both are happy to separate.

Someone to care for them as well as you would? A place that’s warm, safe and welcoming? Somewhere where you and your family feel welcome? I know that’s what we would want. We encourage you to visit, ask questions, learn and most importantly, play with your baby. We believe that children need carefully structured stimulation – not with cheap plastic toys, but with natural materials such as wood toys. They need to experience textures, mirrors and engaging resources that will fascinate your baby. There is plenty of space for your child to experiment with the challenges of crawling, walking and movement safely.

We are not here to teach you how to bring up your child – we want to reinforce what you do at home, so when you first arrive, our experienced team will take the time to discover your child’s routine; and how you settle your child. During the transitional visits, you will go through and share all those hundreds of details about your child. Then we will ensure you understand all our policies and how we can support you with your child.

You will get a dedicated contact person assigned to you and your baby. This key person will record your child’s progress and development. These moments will be shared with you using our online system – called Famly. Through Famly, we can upload those special moments – images and videos; so that you can share them with your friends and family.
